2011 Honda CRZ Hybrid Coupe Utah - It's Almost Here!!

The wait is almost over..the end of the month is approaching...and the all new 2011 Honda CRZ is just about here! If you are as excited as we are, this is going to be great. This little Sport Hybrid has been causing quite the stir here, Japan, and all over the Internet. Critics for the most part love the Sporty Coupe and are surprised at the handling, quickness, and great looks.

We know it's not supposed to be a speed demon, that isn't it's purpose. But the Writers that understand the concept of a Sportier handling Hybrid..and that it isn't supposed to be competition for M3's or Evo's...feel that Honda has hit the mark. That they have indeed created a much more lively drive than we have ever received out of a hybrid before. In Sport mode the handling stiffens, the torque jumps to it's peak, and the little engine that could gives surprising results. It is a fun to drive hybrid..wow..those words in the same sentence..how did that happen?

Well Honda has been doing this for years. Being innovative, bringing fresh concepts to the market for a while. With the CRZ they wanted to design a fun to drive, great MPG, great looking Coupe. Many ask why the Hybrid MPG numbers aren't 50! Well let's look at that. The Honda Insight brought out last year to battle with the reigning champ Pruis says that it gets 40 City and 43 HWY as far as the EPA Sticker states. But we all know that that is based on normal mode and not including the ECO Mode that has been getting People, depending on driving, between the high 40's all the way up in the the 60's for hypermiling drivers.

So lets look at the Sportier CRZ. The Sticker states 35 City and 37 Highway, so I know that in the ECO Mode that we are talking more along the lines in the mid 40's to at the peak for hypermiling...somewhere near the 50's. So really this CRZ will be all that it should. Forget the EPA sticker, we all know that it is judging the mileage at the medium. The vehicle has three modes just like the Insight, except the 3 modes really change the handling in the CRZ. You want Sporty and fun, drive in the Sport mode. You want a little bit of both, drive in NORMAL..you want the MPG, drive in ECO and there you go.

Honda has tried and succeeded in many people's opinion, to give everyone a driving feeling they prefer from one vehicle. For those that want real sport...give it just a bit..the Mugen will be coming ( It is already been built and is being tested ) and I have no doubt seeing how many people are asking for it, that there will be an Si or R-Type. I think for the first model year and possibly the second we will see the regular CRZ and the Mugen..then the third year we will see the Si or R-Type, but Honda may shock us and bring it out year two. The talks are already happening at Honda on the R-Type due to the attention the CRZ is getting..so I have no doubt we will see it. The car looks great now and the tuners market would love a 200 HP version. If you haven't had a chance to see the mugen, I have provided a link just below for you to see the specs.

Meanwhile the debut of the Honda CRZ is just about here. The launch date is set for the 24th of the month..so get ready to come on down and give the new CRZ a look and drive. There will not be a ton at the onset, so if you want one...you are going to have to be here and ready, because they will go fast. Initially there may only be 1-3 for every dealer, leaving many without a CRZ right off the bat. So again, realize that it will go fast! Honda Raises Time Capsule, Celebrates 10 Years since Groundbreaking

An Interesting HONDA STORY...

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley joined Lincoln school students and community leaders at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama Tuesday to raise a 10-year time capsule and celebrate a decade since the start of construction at the $1.4 billion facility.

The time capsule was presented to Honda officials on April 25, 2000 by students at three Lincoln schools to commemorate the start of construction and to memorialize a slice of life in Lincoln at the time of the groundbreaking.

An inscription on the time capsule said, "We plant our dreams. May they flourish abundantly." More than 25 items were packaged in the time capsule, including t-shirts and yearbooks from Lincoln Elementary School, Drew Middle School and Lincoln High School. The capsule also contained a "Growlithe" card from the popular PokÃ©mon card game.

"I would like to congratulate all our associates for the teamwork, dedication and commitment to our customers that has made the dream of HMA come true," said HMA President Nobu Sanui. "I would also like to thank our neighbors - the people of Lincoln, Talladega County , and the State of Alabama - for your partnership. I am very proud of what HMA has achieved during the past ten years."

HMA employs more than 4,000 associates at its Lincoln facility and is the sole North American production source of the Odyssey minivan, the Pilot sport utility vehicle, the Ridgeline pickup truck and the V-6 engines that power each vehicle. The plant also shares production of the Accord V-6 Sedan with the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio . Capital investment at the plant now totals more than $1.4 billion at the 3.5 million square foot facility with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles and engines.

Some of those same students, community leaders and guests who attended at that groundbreaking day 10 years ago returned to HMA for a brief look back at Lincoln in the days before Honda. Contents of the time capsule were placed on display for guests to look through and reminisce on how some things have changed in just 10 years.

Jessica Meek Popham, a former Lincoln High School student who spoke at the original groundbreaking ceremony in 2000, said there has been much growth in Lincoln , thanks to Honda.

"In the garden that is Lincoln, Alabama, the citizens are flourishing as never before and we are grateful to Honda Manufacturing of Alabama for its huge contribution to our community," Popham said. Popham is now a pharmacist in Anniston .

During the groundbreaking ceremony on April 25, 2000, Honda revealed that the first vehicle to be built at the new plant would be the popular Honda Odyssey minivan. Though "the big day" - the day the plant would build its first vehicle suitable for sale - was some 18 months away, groundbreaking day still holds fond memories for Lincoln area residents and HMA associates who have followed the company's progress from the very beginning.

During the past two years - in the midst of the most severe downturn in North American automotive production history - Alabama's Honda plant continued to grow with the addition of two important Honda vehicles to its Lincoln lineup. Production of both the Ridgeline pickup truck and the Accord V-6 Sedan was added to HMA's manufacturing lineup in 2009. The lineoff of the first Honda pickup truck to be built in Alabama occurred Feb. 16, 2009 and was followed just five months later with the lineoff of the first Alabama-built Accord V-6 Sedan on July 17, 2009 in Lincoln.

Ken Garff Honda of Orem has pictures of the New Accord Crosstour due out shortly from Honda. This AWD Crossover vehicle is going to be a vehicle that is set to go up against the Outback market, as well as the Toyota Venza. In our market here in Utah I have had many People looking for the AWD Model in a sedan and this is the closest they will get for now. I believe it will hit big for us here, again due to our weather and the fact that Honda buyers love the reliability factor.

Many folks are stating their opinions on this Crosstour already, based solely on styling and not giving it a chance. I believe that the first pictures released by Honda didn’t really show what the vehicle is going to look like really well, that the one above is much better, and that this will be a very big car again for our Utah marketplace.

The 2010 Honda Pilot crossover combines car-like road manners and around-town driving ease with the most sought-after SUV traits by virtue of its spacious interior, rugged character and all-weather confidence.

“The Pilot crossover offers practical SUV capabilities with the driving sophistication and refinement that people expect from a Honda,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of Product Planning for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “The combination of spacious eight-passenger seating, a comfortable ride and advanced fuel-saving technology help make the Pilot one of the most accommodating vehicles for children, work, errands and for longer trips with family and friends.”

The 250-horsepower V-6 engine provides both performance and enhanced efficiency with Variable Cylinder Management™, a technology that can deactivate up to three of the engine’s six cylinders to save fuel when cruising or lightly accelerating. The available Variable Torque Management™ 4-Wheel-Drive (VTM-4®) enhances traction in rain, snow and slippery terrain. All models are equipped with a standard towing receiver and a maximum tow rating of 4,500 pounds on 4WD models and 3,500 pounds on 2WD models1.

Consistent with contemporary SUV styling, the exterior conveys a bold and modular approach that also helps maximize interior space. Yet the Pilot still maintains a garage-friendly exterior size of less than 16 feet, requiring less space to park compared to other popular 8-passenger SUVs by a margin of 10 inches, and in some cases up to two feet.

The interior emphasizes an expansive feel with an efficient and modern design that supplies 152.7 cu-ft. of passenger space within three rows of seats. Adjustable storage compartments in the center console can accommodate items large and small from handbags to mobile phones. The instrument panel’s wide center stack intelligently groups similar controls together for the audio system, climate controls and the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ and Honda DVD Entertainment System (if equipped). All models provide an auxiliary audio input jack for digital music players, and the Pilot Touring also includes Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and a USB audio interface2.

The first row provides a commanding view of the road from two bucket-style seats. The 60/40 split second row accommodates three passengers and slides forward for increased ease of access to the third row. The third row, also split 60/40, is designed to offer sufficient knee room for an average size adult. There are four Lower Anchor and Tether for Children (LATCH) attachment positions – more than any other crossover SUV – which provide options for three child seats in the second row and one in the third row. The 20.8 cu-ft of cargo space behind the third row matches or exceeds the trunk space of a typical large sedan and can accommodate items as large as a mid-size cooler or a folded stroller. A hidden storage well (2.8 cu-ft.) combines with the above floor storage area by securing the hinged floor panel against the seatback. Pilot EX-L and Touring models provide a load-supporting cargo net (20 pounds maximum weight) to further subdivide the rear cargo area. For maximum cargo, the second and third rows fold flat into the floor to create 87.0 cubic feet of storage capacity, while also providing sufficient width for 4-foot-wide items.

Safety technology includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that can enhance frontal collision compatibility with vehicles of different sizes and bumper heights. Additional safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as Electronic Stability Control; three-row side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor; driver’s and front passenger’s side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); active front seat head restraints; and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist. Since the 2009 model year, the Honda Pilot has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) best-possible crash safety rating3 of 5 stars for both frontal and side impact performance.

The Pilot is powered by an advanced 24-valve i-VTEC engine with “intelligent” Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) technology. Variable Cylinder Management allows the V-6 engine to operate in six-cylinder mode for power and four- or three-cylinder modes for efficiency. Fuel economy is an EPA-estimated4 city/highway/combined fuel economy of 17/23/19 miles per gallon on two-wheel-drive models and 16/22/18 miles per gallon on four-wheel-drive models. A 21-gallon fuel tank can comfortably provide a driving range of more than 400 miles on the highway.

The 5-speed automatic transmission features Grade Logic Control to help maintain the most appropriate gear when going uphill or downhill, thereby avoiding gear “hunting.” The VTM-4 system (available) adds fully automatic four-wheel-drive capability. VTM-4 delivers seamless, “decision-free” application of four-wheel-drive when needed, a key benefit compared to conventional systems. The system also provides a “lock mode” – available when in first or second gears (up to 18 mph) and activated by a button on the instrument panel – that can deliver the maximum-possible torque transfer to the rear wheels to aid in extraction from extremely low traction or stuck conditions.

The unit-body construction makes extensive use of high-strength steel (52 percent) to minimize weight. The suspension is a fully independent system with front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link with trailing arm designs that contribute to responsive driving characteristics for an SUV. The 109.2-inch wheelbase facilitates a smooth ride and standard 17-inch wheels with P245 65 R17 all-season tires combine both on- and off-road performance. A turning diameter of 38.6 feet aids maneuverability in tight parking situations.

The Pilot is available in four model choices (LX, EX, EX-L and Touring); each offered in either a two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive configuration. Standard comfort and convenience features on the Pilot LX include a front and rear air conditioning system with air-filtration system, keyless entry, tilt and telescope steering column, cruise control, power windows with auto-up/down driver’s and passenger’s window, power door and tailgate locks, AM/FM/CD stereo system with 7-speakers including subwoofer and Radio Data System (RDS), trip computer, digital compass, auto on/off headlights, heat-rejecting tinted glass, integrated class III towing receiver, and more.

The Pilot EX adds a tri-zone automatic climate control system with humidity control and air filtration, a power driver’s seat with 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support, 6-disc in-dash CD changer, security system, XM Radio®5, body colored side mirrors and door handles, alloy wheels, roof rails, fog lights, exterior temperature indicator, HomeLink® Remote System, and more.

The Pilot EX-L adds leather-trimmed seating surfaces, heated front seats, 4-way power front passenger’s seat, one-touch power moonroof, acoustic windshield glass, automatic-dimming rearview mirror with rearview camera display (EX-L-exclusive), and the availability of the Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System with 9-inch screen (which also upgrades to the Premium Audio System with 10 speakers including subwoofer and adds a 115-volt power outlet), and more.

The top-of-the-line Pilot Touring adds the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with rearview camera, Premium Audio System, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, USB Audio Interface, the availability of the Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System, Multi-Information display, corner and backup sensors, exclusive alloy wheels, power tailgate, side-mirror integrated turn indicators, and more.

Nearly Every Honda Model Meets “Cash for Clunkers” Fuel Economy Requirements With one of the most fuel-efficient vehicle lineups in the industry, nearly every new Honda model will help customers qualify for a federal “Cash for Clunkers” credit, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

Depending on the trade-in vehicle, customers will be able to choose one or more of Honda’s diverse model line including the Ridgeline pickup, its most-rugged vehicle; the Accord, Honda’s best-selling U.S. model; and the all-new Insight, the most-affordable hybrid in the United States.

“You don’t really need a complicated chart to find a qualifying vehicle at a Honda dealer,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We hope that this program will help consumers make the move into vehicles that are easier on both their wallets and the environment.”

The federal Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act of 2009 was enacted on June 24 of this year. More commonly referred to as “Cash for Clunkers,” this program is designed to stimulate vehicle sales and reduce overall fuel use by providing up to a $4,500 credit to consumers who trade in their current eligible vehicle for one that achieves greater fuel economy.
The only vehicles in the Honda lineup that will not qualify for a credit are the limited-production S2000 roadster, the Accord V6 Coupe with manual transmission and the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle (the latter is excluded by the program’s five year lease requirement).
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is expected to issue final rules for program implementation by July 23. Further detail on the federal program can be found on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s web site at http://www.cars.gov.

June 25, 2009 - President Obama has signed the Cash for Clunkers Bill, now called “CARS” . NHTSA should have program up and running Late July.

June 23, 2009 - The NHTSA has updated their CARS website (http://cars.gov/), the only Federal website for the cash voucher program. The latest information on the website indicates that the program implementation will be completed in Late July. The exact wording from the Cars.gov website advises consumers “You may want to contact your local dealer in mid-July.” This is in slight conflict with the wording of the bill that says cars purchased from July 1, 2009 – November 1, 2009 will qualify. Free and Clear
First, the basics: a fuel cell vehicle is powered by an electric motor running on electricity generated by a hydrogen-powered fuel cell stack. The more efficient Honda E-Drive electric motor lets you drive with peace of mind knowing that you are helping to reduce the amount of CO2 being released in our atmosphere. The compact coaxial motor is quieter and can run at higher rpm, for greater efficiency and speed.

Get Vertical
The Vertical Flow (V Flow) fuel cell stack is one of Honda’s greatest breakthroughs in this area. The new design is smaller, allowing for better packaging efficiency. Insight Is Coming to Ken Garff Honda!

The all new 2010 Honda Insight is about to hit the ground rolling. We know that their are many of you out there that are wondering when the release date will be.. Well wait no longer. As it is slated for April of 2009 and looks like that should come off without a hitch. Here is some of the latest information on the Insight, to fill in those that don't already know...

Evoking the advanced and aerodynamic five-door sedan design first deployed on the revolutionary FCX Clarity fuel cell car, the new Insight has a low center of gravity and a spacious five-passenger cabin, offering the kind of driving experience and roomy, versatile interior space that customers have come to expect from Honda.To help Insight owners realize the full benefits of Honda hybrid technology, the Insight will feature a new interactive, driver-focused fuel economy enhancement technology named the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist™). Eco Assist combines multiple functions:

A driver-activated ECON mode that optimizes control of the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), engine and related powertrain components to further improve vehicle fuel efficiency; a driver feedback function that uses an innovative speedometer display with changing background colors to provide real-time guidance to the driver on achieving higher fuel efficiency; and a unique fuel-economy scoring function using a plant-leaf graphic to provide feedback to the driver on current-trip driving efficiency and lifetime fuel-efficient driving performance.

All Insights are powered by an advanced 1.3-liter SOHC aluminum-alloy i-VTEC engine and CVT, along with a new generation of Honda's IMA hybrid system for exceptional fuel economy and fun-to-drive performance.The Insight's IMA system incorporates a 10-kilowatt (13 hp) electric motor and a compact Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) — recapturing and storing kinetic energy from vehicle braking and deceleration and supplying additional power for acceleration when needed.

Packaging of the ultra-compact IMA battery and IPU in the vehicle’s rear floor allows the enhanced utility of a 60/40 split and fold-down rear seat back.The Insight's IMA system has the capability to operate exclusively on electric power in certain low- to mid-speed driving conditions. It also provides for cylinder deactivation within the gasoline engine during deceleration and for engine shutoff when the vehicle is stopped. With a 10.6-gallon fuel tank, the

Insight delivers an estimated maximum driving range in excess of 400 miles.Standard safety features on all Insights include dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags; front-side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); side curtain airbag system; anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution (EBD); driver- and front-passenger active head restraints and a front body designed to mitigate pedestrian injuries. All new Insights also feature Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which provides improved crash compatibility between vehicles of different size and ride height, enhancing protection for Insight occupants while reducing the potential for injury to occupants of the opposing vehicle in a frontal collision.

Additional standard features on all new Insights include 60/40 split and fold-down rear seatbacks; two-tier digital instrument panels; automatic climate control; power windows, mirrors and door locks; a tilting and telescoping steering wheel and a 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3 audio playback, an auxiliary audio input jack and Speed-Sensitive Volume Control (SVC).Insight EX models add alloy wheels, cruise control, 6-speaker audio system with USB audio interface, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, Honda Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) and an available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with Voice Recognition.

Honda is a leader in developing cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicle technologies, including the original Honda Insight, introduced as America's first mass-produced hybrid car in December 1999. American Honda has announced plans to increase its U.S. hybrid sales beyond the new Insight with the introduction of a third hybrid car, based on the Honda CR-Z concept vehicle, within the next couple of years. Honda is also a leader in the development of advanced alternatives to gasoline, including the zero-emission, hydrogen-powered Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell car, the world’s most advanced production automobile.
